The University won VINCENT MBINDO KATHUMO VERSUS REPUBLIC-ACEC APPEAL NO 23 OF 2018 in the High Court. Dr Kathumo had been charged and convicted in Milimani Anti-Corruption Court Chief Magistrate’s Anti-Corruption Case No 1 of 2017, with the offence of requesting for a bribe contrary to section 6(1) (a) as read with section 18 of The Bribery Act, No. 47 of 2016. He had received a bribe from a student. While upholding the conviction, the court held that as a lecturer holding a position of authority and responsibility, he was required to open the minds of those under his charge, instead, he abused his position to intimidate and obtain financial gain from his students by obtaining the bribe.
