The University of Nairobi has an array of policies which were formulated in diverse years before and after the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, the Labour Laws in 2007 and the Integrity Laws in 2003 and 2012 respectively.

The University forwarded the policies to the Commission for the Implementation of the Constitution (CIC) for alignment to the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and other enabling legislation on November 27 2014 and CIC replied to the University‘s request through a letter dated December 19 2014.

The Government through a letter from the Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service, Mr. Joseph K. Kinyua, CBS dated April 28 2015 on nos. 1, 4-10, 12-15 under paragraph three (3) gave appropriate direction on how to go about the Implementation of the President’s Commitment to the Nation on Measures taken and progress achieved in the realization of National Values and Principles of Governance.

The Vice-Chancellor appointed the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration and Finance) to Chair the Committee on Alignment of the University Policies to the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 and also appointed members to the said committee to interrogate the University Policies and align them appropriately to the Constitution.

The committee will be expected to present a report with recommendations to the University Management Board and the Senate on the alignment of the University Policies to the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 by June 30 2015.

The committee held its first meeting on June 6 2015 at the Council Chamber at 2.30 p.m.
